BLACK OUT/DEATH POSTURE: The blackout or as it is commonly referred to, the death posture, is the technique that the late Austin Osman Spare refined for his own magical use and which has been adopted by chaoists, solo and group, world wide as its popularity has been increased by the works of the IOT over the last decade or so. For more information on Austin Osman Spare, click HERE This practice is alluded to in PENETRATION on ZOON, as well as LOVE UNDER WILL on THE NEPHILIM
EA: One of the sons of Anu. Ea is the Lord of Water and is depicted in Sumerian cylinder seals as having the Tigris and Euphrates flowing from his shoulders. He is also called 'the all-seeing one' and the Wise Serpent. Anu divided the heaven and the earth under the rulership of his two sons, Ea and Ellil and named Ea 'En-ki' or Lord of the Earth. To Enki, Anu gave dominion of the earth and it's inhabitants. Ea and his sister Ninma (Ninhursag) are the ones that fashioned the hu-mans from the 'clay' and brought Adama and Hawah into being (Adam and Eve). It is thought by many that Ea was the father of Qayin (Cain) and not Adama - including Aleister Crowley and Laurence Gardner. It is well known from the ancient Mesopotamian texts that Ea 'got around' :) Gardner goes on to say that Ea later became the diety/king at Sama and was also known as Sama-el, the Lord of Sama. The name Samael or Sammael later becomes synonymous with Satanail or Satan. Every time Ellil wanted to wipe out humanity, it was always Ea who came to the rescue...and he's the Devil!!
ELLIL: Another of Anu's sons. Anu gave Ellil dominion over the Heaven (Kharsag). Ellil apparently wanted control over everything and everyone. He wanted it his way or no way. Ellil later became 'El' or 'El Elyon'. The War in Heaven was essentially the culmination of the on-going disputes and disagreements between Ellil and Ea. Ellil, his forces overcoming those of Ea, declared himself Holy God and Ea the Satan or the Devil and 'cast him into the Earth'. Well, Ea was already in the Earth, running things a lot more fairly than Ellil was. It became a matter of convenience for Ellil to have this opposition and enemy, by which to manipulate and control human beings with fear and guilt. Ellil even wiped out the cult of Baal/Ashera, which was none other than his other brother or son, Adad/Hadad.
FLOUR: McCoy and Company have caught some flak for the practice of pouring flour over themselves - but there are reasons for this. In the Necronomicon, the conjuring circles are cast with flour. Flour is seen as an 'insulator' against demonic spirits, much like salt. Also, the Tantric god Shiva in his aspect as the Supreme Yogi (Mahayogi) smears his body with ashes from the cremation grounds, which gives his flesh a strange luminous glow, like camphor and 'hides' his true nature or quality of darkness or dispersion. It is also done to signify his renunciation of the world (the ashes of the world). Gives you that mouldering, night of the living dead look, too - which we all are, anyway :) Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
GEHENNA: a.k.a. Gi-Hinnom. This ravine was from time immemorial the repository of all the refuse of the city of Jerusalem. It also provided a mass grave and a place of cremation for the corpses of the destitute and those put to death as criminals. In the Qabalah, it is the lowest of the seven hells. Aside from being a synonym for the fiery pit or abyss, it is interesting to note it's purpose as a cremation ground in relation to certain Tantric practices most notably attributed to the Aghori sects. The Aghori live in the smashans or cremation grounds - for several different reasons... One is to constantly observe the impermanent nature of life. Another is to overcome the concepts of duality, such as good and evil, disgusting and pleasureable; as well as to overcome the inherent human fear of the dead and the spirits that live just in the next plane. I think you know the references here. Pronounced 'geh-heh-nah'.
HECATE or HEKATE: Her name means 'most lovely one' or 'the distant one'. Hekate is the goddess of the Moon; Queen of the Night and all it's children. She is the triple goddess - the aspects of the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. As Hecate Trevia (the three ways) her images stood at three-way crossroads where offerings of dogs or puppies, black ewe lambs and honey were left to her on the nights of the full moon. She could change ages and form, heal or kill. She is often considered the Crone or Dark Moon aspect of the goddess, as she is the patroness of priestesses, gods and witches. She rules the waning moon, dark magic, spells and enchantments, wisdom, transformation, reincarnation, curses, hauntings, averting evil, regeneration. [Greek and Roman]. Hecate is also mentioned in the Chaldean Oracles of Zoroaster. She is mentioned in the song SHINE on ZOON. Her name is pronounced 'heh-kit' or 'heh-kayt' normally, but in SHINE, McCoy bends it a bit and says 'heh-keh-tee'.
IGIGI: The Igigi are defined as 'those who see and observe'. They are the gods who are given the task of digging river-beds, canals and building cities by the Anunnaki. In what may be the world's first labour strike (as reported in the Atrahasis texts) the Igigi say they've had enough and go to the house of Ellil (Ekur). There, they tell their troubles to Ellil's vizier, Nusku, who relays them to the Seven Who Decide Fate. This is where the bright idea to make humans to bear the toil of the gods came from. After that, with nothing better to do, it seems the Igigi took all the women, had a lot of Naphedim sons who took over the earth from the other humans and generally caused a lot of trouble. So the story goes. What Enoch and Genesis don't bother to mention is that Ellil first sent a plague on them to kill them off. When they recovered from this and repopulated Sumer once more, he made his brother Ea/Enki lock the gates of the waters and caused there to be a serious famine in which everyone fell to their lowest depths and only the strong survived (guess who?). Situations such as barring the kids from the house, selling daughters into slavery (presumably to the Naphedim, since they were all males) and cannibalism are associated with this drought. Yeah, they hungered and thirsted and were not sated...because there was nothing to eat or drink. When this didn't work, Ellil decided to wipe them all out with the Flood. Every last one. But Ea got over on him once again and went to Atrahasis (Ut-napistim or Ziusudra - pick a name) and told him to build an ark. You know the rest of the story. Whoever wrote Genesis borrowed this story from the Atrahasis about the Flood and conveniently forgot the rest. Changed the 'hero's' name to Noah and voila! The Igigi are refered to in PSYCHONAUT as ' Igigos '. Pronounced 'ee-gee-gee'. They ARE the Watchers, aka the Grigori.
INANNA (ISHTAR): Inanna is the daughter of Nanna or Shin, the Sumerian moon-god. She is the Lady of Sorrows; the Queen of Heaven; Mother of Gods; Giver of Life and the Lady of Love and War. The story of her descent into Kurnugi - the Underworld, is much like that of the Greek myth of Persephone. As with the Greek story, this is linked with the changing of the seasons, the sprouting of new life and the return of the harvest goddess from the netherworlds. As a warrior goddess, she carried a bow and rode in a chariot drawn by seven lions. Other images show her riding a lion. The kings of Sumer and Babylon were always wed to Inanna/Ishtar as a symbolic communion with the goddess. [Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Sumerian, Assyrian] She is mentioned as 'Inyanna' in PSYCHONAUT and alluded to in many other songs. Pronounced 'ee-nah-nah'.

MELEK TA'US: The 'Peacock Angel' is worshipped by the Yezidi. As a branch of the Cult of Angels, Yezidism places a special emphasis on the angels. The name Yezidi is derived from the Old and Middle Iranic term yazata or yezad, for "angel" rendering it to mean "angelicans." Among these angels, the Yezidis include also Lucifer, who is referred to as Melek Tâwus ("Peacock Angel"). Far from being the prince of darkness and evil, Lucifer is of the same nature as other archangels, albeit with far more authority and power over worldly affairs. In fact, it is Melek Tâwus who creates the material world using the dismembered pieces of the original cosmic egg, or pearl, in which the Spirit once resided. "In the beginning God (the Universal Spirit) created the White Pearl out of his most precious Essence; and He created a bird named Anfar. And he placed the pearl upon its back, and dwelt thereon forty thousand years. On the first day of Creation, Sunday, He created an angel named 'Azâzil', which is Malak Tâwus, the chief of all...." [Kurdish ~ from 'The Black Book', Meshaf Rehsh] Neither Melek Ta'us or Azazel is mentioned specifically in any song, but they are alluded to in DAWNRAZOR, and the story line of ZOON. The 'angel towers' of the Yedzidis (ziarahs) are mentioned in PENETRATION on ZOON . Pronounced 'meh-lehk tau-us'.
NEPHILIM: The giants born of the mating of the Watchers with the daughters of Men. Half human and half divine, they were doomed from the start. "And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them." YHWH cursed the Nephilim as evil spirits and numbered their days to 500 years. He sent the archangel Gabriel to cause the Nephilim to turn upon one another. YHWH then sent the archangel Michael to bind the Watchers and set them to watch their children destroy one another. The Watchers were then to be bound in the valleys of the earth for seventy generations. At the time of judgement, they are to be taken to their final damnation and be cast into the fiery abyss for eternity. Seventy generations were past many moons ago, and it is not yet the Day of Judgement. So...where are the Watchers now? Perhaps - forced to live the lives of Men and experience the pain and suffering that their transgressions provoked? And do they look inside, rueing their fate - wishing only for that which they can never have... Death? Don't think I need to clue you in on the references to this one. Pronounced 'neh-fil-eem' or 'neh-fil-im'.
PAZUZU (ZU): The demon Pazuzu stands like a human but has a scorpion's body, feathered wings and legs, talons, and a lion-like face on both front and back. Pazuzu, the "king of the evil wind demons," was not entirely unfriendly to mankind. As an enemy of the dreaded Lamashtu demon, bearer of sickness especially to women and children, Pazuzu is often portrayed on amulets used as protection in childbirth. Pazuzu appears in the movie 'The Exorcist'. PAZUZU
is a song on ZOON, which is Shemyaza's lamentation
and anger as he
SEMJAZA or SHEMYAZA: The leader of the Watchers. They did not obey the Prime Directive and became enamoured of the daughters of Men, subsequently leaving 'heaven' and going amongst Men. They impregnated the women, who bore the giants called the Nephilim or Naphedim. They also taught Men the 'worthless' secrets of heaven, and brought down great sin upon the children of the earth. Shemyaza taught Men the arts of enchantments and root cuttings. The story goes that the Nephilim, plundered the earth and the treasures of Men, slew them and brought even worse horror and sin upon the earth. The story of the Watchers is told in the Book of Enoch. Shemyaza is THE WATCHMAN on THE NEPHILIM. He is also the 'speaker' in the songs of ZOON. You can hear him in the background, going on in his heavenly tongue (the backwards-sounding speech) - particularly in STILL LIFE. Read and listen. Pronounced 'shem-yah-zah' or 'sheh-mah-yah' or many other ways.
SHIVA: In Tantrism, Shiva is worshipped variously as the Supreme God (Maheshvara), The Destroyer (Bhairava), The Cosmic Dancer (Nataraja), The Lord of Beasts (Pashupati), and the Ultimate Ground of Being (the Father diety). In Vedism, he is worshipped as the tamasic or disintegrating quality of the Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva. He has been equated, in principle to the Holy Ghost or Spirit. His consorts are three - Kali Ma (fierce aspect), Parvati (benign aspect) and Shakti, which is his dynamic 'power' that enables creation. It is Shakti's 'play' or 'leila' that is what we perceive to be reality. Shiva is often represented by the lingam or phallus, as he is the progenitor of the cosmos. He is also shown, in anthropomorphic images, with three eyes - the third being in the midst of his forehead, matted locks, and the crescent moon on his brow (also associated with Ishtar/Inanna/Astarte/Isis and Hekate). His name comes from the root shin which means 'to sleep' - which is pronounced the same as the name of the Sumerian moon-god, Shin. He is also known as The Lord of Sleep. SHIVA is a song on THE NEPHILIM. There are also many references in these songs to sleeping, sleepers and not being able to wake up, or dreaming and dreaming of being awake. To learn more about Shiva, click HERE - my other site. Pronounced 'shee-vah'.
SIGILS: Sigils are representative of a composition of elements that embody some particular purpose, entity or group of entities. They are spells, invocations, attributes and powers all tied up in a symbol or group of symbols. The sigils used by AO Spare are different from those seen in McCoy's art, in that they are mental projections of the essence of something/some desire. The word 'sigil' also means a 'sign' or 'that by which something/someone is known' and could be compared to the word 'logo' - as in corporate logos. The Watchers sigil is very similar in design to both Crowley's sigil and the sigil of the Masons. The primary elements of the types of sigils McCoy uses are located in the center of the circle. The names of the powers to be invoked are generally written around the outer circle(s) and the spell or invocation written inside. Of course, sigils are a personal matter and are designed from that knowledge that does not come from the mind. Sigils are also used by Tantrics and called 'yantras' or 'tools'. These are similar in that they use geometric symbols in various combinations to represent certain concepts and gods or powers. Seed mantra are usually written around the central elements. Which ones are used, depend on the desire and purpose of the maker. Sigils and yantras can become 'empowered' by various rituals.

ZI DINGIR...: There is an exorcism rite in the Necronomicon called 'ZI DINGIR'. Zi dingir kia/anna kanpa are also calls from Sumerian magical rites to the spirits of the earth and sky to remember. Remember what?? It's not 'where they left their keys'. These lines are also spoken in 'The Exorcism Against The Possessing Spirit' from the Necronomicon at the end of each verse. McCoy wrote his own version of this in PSYCHONAUT - like you didn't know that. Pronounced 'zee deen-geer'.
